CGNY Shows up for TI:5!
Few things are more eSports than "USA" chants, a Dota-themed drink list, and a bar packed with MOBA fans. Our Pubstomp had them all.
As early as 12:00pm, people started showing up for the last day of the Dota 2 - The International. In total over 350 attended to watch competitors fight for more than $18M in prize money. It was a long day of spectator gaming and, between games, the Red Bull Wings team topped off everyone's energy levels with free cans of their product.
By 6:00pm the venue, Playwright on 35th, was absolutely packed - even some folks from the street saw our sign and decided to walk in! Throughout the day, CGNY raffled off shirts, hats, and mousepads, courtesy of Red Bull. Patrons munched on goodies such as the Butcher's Burger, and everyone enjoyed each of the red, blue or green colored drinks (Vitality Booster, Laguna Blade, and Nethertoxin, respectively).
In the end, it came down to Game 4 in the Finals, with Team Evil Geniuses taking home $6M over team CDEC. We weren't sure what to think of DeadMau5' performance, so we put on the Star Spangled Banner for some good 'ole patriotism. What a great night.
Special thanks to the CGNY volunteers who made it happen: Andrey, Chris K., Chris M., Fonze, Hana, Jose, Justin, Kyle, Mitch, Michael, Nikki, Nilkesh, Spencer, Thomas, and Tim.
